Cabuwazi Kinder - und Jugendzirkus e.V.

Cabuwazi wurde 1993 als Elterninitiative gegründet. Cabuwazi ist Zirkus zum Selbermachen für Kinder zwischen 10 und 17 Jahren. An vier Standorten in Berlin (Altglienicke, Kreuzberg, Marzahn und Treptow) trainieren ca. 650 Kinder und Jugendliche.

Der Kinder- und Jugendzirkus Cabuwazi bietet jungen Menschen in Berlin einen sicheren Ort, wo sie ihre Frei-zeit sinnvoll verbringen können. Damit alle mitmachen können – unabhängig von der sozialen Situation ihrer Familie - ist das Training für die Kinder und Jugendlichen grundsätzlich kostenlos. Dies geht nur, wenn viele Menschen Circus Cabuwazi unterstützen.

Das Trainingsprogramm umfasst die klassischen Zirkusdisziplinen wie Akrobatik, Clownerie, Kugellauf, Jong-lieren, Tanz, Einradfahren, Seillauf, Trapezakrobatik, Diabolo sowie Elemente der Kinder-Straßenkultur wie Inlineskating und Breakdance oder Sportgenres wie Trampolinspringen und Rhönrad. Professionelle Artisten und Pädagogen leiten die Kinder und Jugendlichen an.

Neben dem täglichen Training in über 30 verschiedenen artistischen Disziplinen sind Inszenierungen und Auftritte Höhepunkte für die jungen Artisten. Darüber hinaus gibt es zahlreiche andere Veranstaltungen wie Workshops, Ferienfahrten, internationalen Jugendaustausch und Teilnahme an Jugendzirkusfestivals.

Circus Cabuwazi bietet am Vormittag Projektwochen für Schulklassen an. Eine Klasse kommt - statt Unter-richt - eine Woche lang vormittags in den Zirkus. Am Ende der Woche zeigen die Mädchen und Jungen in ei-ner großen Zirkusgala vor Zuschauern, was sie in der Woche gelernt haben. Die Schulprojektwochen sind sehr gefragt und schon Monate vorher ausgebucht.

Circus Cabuwazi ist ein sozialpädagogischer Jugendkulturbetrieb. Er fördert die Entwicklung der Kinder und Jugendlichen und leistet so einen wichtigen Beitrag für gesellschaftliche Integration. Circus Cabuwazi ver-mittelt Erfolgserlebnisse, Selbstbewusstsein, Verantwortungsbewusstsein, Teamgeist, und Fairness.

Circus Cabuwazi was founded in the year 1993 as a parents’ initiative. Cabuwazi is a circus for children aged between 10 and 17 years. About 650 children and youth train at four different locations in Berlin (Altglienicke, Kreuzberg, Marzahn and Treptow).

Circus Cabuwazi offers young people an attractive place to spend their free time. The training is principally free to ensure that every child can join, regardless of his or her family’s financial situation. This functions only if there is enough outside support of Circus Cabuwazi.

The training program includes all classic circus skills, like acrobatics, clowning, rolling globes, juggling, dance, unicycle, rope-dancing, trapeze acrobatics and Diablo as well as elements of the children’s street culture like inline skating and break dance or sportive genres like trampoline tumbling and gymwheel. Professional artists and educators instruct the children and youth.

In addition to the daily training in more than 30 different artistic disciplines, performances are the highlights for the young artists. Cabuwazi also provides numerous other events like workshops, holiday trips, international youth meetings and participation in national and international circus festivals.

In the morning Circus Cabuwazi offers project classes for schools. Instead of the normal school day the class comes to the Circus for one week every morning. At the end of the week the boys and girls present their newly learned skills to an audience in a great circus gala. There is a high demand for these project classes and they are always booked out for months ahead.

Circus Cabuwazi is a social-pedagogic utility for youth culture. Cabuwazi promotes the development of children and youth and thus makes an important contribution to social integration. Circus Cabuwazi improves the experience of success, self consciousness, sense of responsibility, team spirit and fairness. Circus Cabuwazi is member of the Federal Association Circus Pedagogics.
